Last night the Winnipeg Jets had their third straight game out of four against the Calgary Flames and it was also the Jets’ last game of their seven-game homestand at Bell MTS Place.

Both prior games of the four-game set between the Jets and the Flames were cagey affairs that went down to the wire. Both games were decided by one goal, with no team taking a commanding lead.

But last night, the Jets rewrote the script between these sides. Winnipeg picked up both points and skated to a commanding 4-1 win over Calgary.

The Winnipeg Jets finished their homestand with an impressive victory against the Flames

Here are three talking points from yesterday’s 4-1 Jets win:

3. The Third Line Leads the Way

As we have seen in the past couple of seasons, the Jets are led by the top-two lines. These lines pick up the brunt of the Jets’ goals and last season there was a huge drop off in points between those six players and the bottom-six forwards.

Yesterday, the Jets’ third line of Mason Appleton, Mathieu Perreault, and Adam Lowry performed extremely well.

This line combined to tie the game at one, in the second period and had a strong and solid game all throughout.

These three players combined for 1 goal and 4 assists in yesterday’s win. The Jets are an extremely dangerous team to play against when they receive secondary scoring.

2. Second Period Performance was the Difference

The Jets trailed after the first frame 1-0 and this game had all the makings to be another close battle till the end, but the Jets had a different idea.

Winnipeg imposed their game on the Flames in the second frame. About three minutes into the period, Andrew Copp scored to tie the game at 1-1.

Then just about more than halfway into the second, Kyle Connor had a beautiful breakaway goal to put the Jets in the lead, then in the last minute of the period Mark Scheifele scored to give the Jets a two-goal lead after two.

The second period gave the Jets some much needed separation from the Flames and it was fun to watch the Jets take the lead and pushed for more.

1. Hellebuyck Sets the Record

At the still-young age of twenty-seven-years-old, Connor Hellebuyck now has his name in the history books of the Atlanta/Winnipeg Franchise.

Yesterday, Hellebuyck got the start and made 23 saves on 24 shots en route to picking up his fifth win of the season.

Not only did Hellebuyck perform extremely well, but yesterday was also his 153rd win with the Jets organization. That win puts him in first all-time in wins in the team’s history.

This is a great accomplishment for an outstanding goaltender and Hellebuyck still has many great years ahead of him.

The Jets do get a nice bit of rest now. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday night in Calgary against the Flames.
