The Winnipeg Jets started a four-game homestand last night by kicking off a two-game series against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell MTS Place.

Many people around the NHL were taking note of this game because it was the Canadiens’ first game with their new coach. Claude Julien was fired and Dominique Ducharme made his debut as the Canadiens head coach.

Also, this game was extremely important in the North Division standings. Going into yesterday, the Jets were in third place and the Canadiens were one point behind them.

The Winnipeg Jets dominated the second half of the game en route to a 6-3 win

Although the Jets found themselves trailing the Canadiens early in the game, they battled back to take all of the points from the all-important game.

Here are three talking points from yesterday’s 6-3 Jets win:

3. The Jets Weather the Storm

In the game preview for this game, our own Dan St. Joseph focused on how this game would be challenging for the Jets because the Canadiens players would have a strong response to the firing of their head coach. He hit the nail on the head!

The Canadiens came out strong and fast out of the gate and in the last seven minutes of the period, Montreal scored twice to go into the locker room after one with a 2-0 lead.

The Jets did a good job of weathering the storm in the first period. Although they were trailing 2-0, they regrouped after the first to get back to their gameplan and their style of play that has made them so successful throughout this season.

2. Five Unanswered

Midway through the second period, the Jets were down 3-1. The Jets have played extremely well when trailing this season and fans knew at any point that Winnipeg would make their push to start a comeback.

Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler both scored in the second frame to put the teams tied at 3-3 at the start of the third.

The Jets took off in the third by scoring three more answered goals to finish the contest 6-3. Nate Thompson scored his first goal as a member of the Winnipeg Jets and the game winning goal six minutes and 37 seconds into the third.

Then both Pierre-Luc Dubois and Mark Scheifele added tallies to give the Jets a commanding victory.

It was fun to see the Jets battle back from trailing by two goals to scoring five goals without a response. This team has great offensive firepower that is extremely fun to watch.

1. Every forward on the Jets, besides one, registers a point

At the start of this 2021 season, many people viewed the Jets as a top-heavy team. The Jets were known as a team that only gets their scoring from their top-six and does not have much secondary scoring, but that has changed.

Last night, all but one forward for the Jets registered a point. The lone forward without a point was Trevor Lewis.

This is an extremely positive sign for Winnipeg. This gives opposing coaches a headache on how to matchup against the Jets lines. If every line on the Jets is scoring, how do you match up against them? There is obviously going to be a mismatch.

The Jets are a tough team to play against when they have secondary scoring and it is great to see eleven of the twelve forwards get in on the scoring action.

The Jets and Canadiens are back in action again tomorrow night as they finish their series in Winnipeg. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. central time.
