A week ago today, Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler was hit with an elbow during the Jets game against the Ottawa Senators. Ultimately, the Jets went on to win that game but they received bad news regarding Wheeler.

Within 24 hours after the game, Paul Maurice ruled Blake Wheeler out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms.

On Thursday it was revealed that Wheeler did in fact suffer a concussion and there was no timetable for his return.

This was terrible news for the Jets and Wheeler as the Jets are in the home stretch of their season fighting for playoff position and Wheeler is a key part of the Jets’ success. But today there was a good sign regarding Wheeler.

Blake Wheeler was back on the ice today in Winnipeg as he looks to return from injury to help the Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets head coach, Paul Maurice, has confirmed that  Blake Wheeler has been on the ice the past two days and has suffered no setbacks.

Sara Orlesky (@saraorlesky on Twitter) provided two videos of Wheeler skating this morning at Bell MTS Place and they can be found below:

This is fantastic news for Winnipeg and Wheeler that he is back on the ice getting some reps in. It is even better news that Wheeler has not suffered any setbacks in his road to recovery.

We should have more news in the coming days regarding Wheeler’s recovery. Hopefully, Wheeler will be back soon as the Jets make their push to clinch a playoff spot.

The Winnipeg Jets are in action tonight as they faceoff against the Senators in Ottawa. The opening puck drop scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time.
