Winnipeg Jets: Top Forward Out for the Rest of the Regular Season
The Winnipeg Jets are in the final stretch of their season and they start a crucial series against the Edmonton Oilers tonight.
The Jets are currently on a three-game losing streak and hold on to second place with a one-point lead ahead of the Oilers. It will definitely be all hands on deck for the Jets if they want home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Winnipeg Jets, they received some terrible injury news regarding Nikolaj Ehlers.
The Winnipeg Jets have announced that Nikolaj Ehlers will miss the remainder of the regular season
Today at the Jets’ morning skate, there was one glaring omission that was not on the ice and that player was Ehlers. Many people were unsure why Ehlers was not on the ice and were waiting for clarification from Paul Maurice during his post-skate press conference.
Maurice informed the media and Winnipeg supporters that Ehlers will be out the rest of the regular season, but they are confident that he will be back in the lineup for the playoffs.
The Jets coaching staff did not reveal when the injury happened, but Ehlers did have an altercation in the third period of Saturday’s game with Joe Thorton of the Maple Leafs.
This is not good news for the Jets as Ehlers has been absolutely outstanding throughout this season. Ehlers is top-five on the Jets in goals (21), assists (25), and points (46), while also leading the team in plus/minus with a +15 rating.
The one positive out of the announcement is Maurice seemed confident that Ehlers would return to the Jets lineup for the start of the playoffs.
