As the Winnipeg Jets start to build their roster for the 2021-2022 season, the Jets front office have made their first signing of the offseason.

This is not a major signing that is going to break the news headlines, but it is a smart depth signing as the Jets resign a player they added during the last offseason.

The player Winnipeg has resigned is twenty-seven-year-old forward and Duluth, Minnesota native, Dominic Toninato.

The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they have signed Dominic Toninato to a new deal

Toninato’s new contract with the Jets will be for the next two seasons and have an average annual value of $750,000.

According to the Jets website, the contract will be a two-way deal during the first season and then move to a one-way deal for the second season.

Cap Friendly has reported that Toninato’s minors salary for the 2021-2022 season will be $400,000 but then be $750,000 in 2022-2023.

Toninato had an interesting season in 2021. He spent the majority of the year on the taxi squad for Winnipeg. He only appeared in two regular season games for the Jets and both of those games came in the last two games of the season.

But due to injuries heading into the playoffs, Toninato appeared in the first two games of the postseason for the Jets in their first round series against the Edmonton Oilers.

In game one against the Oilers, Toninato came up big and scored a clutch goal in the third period to give the Jets a 2-1 lead and his goal ultimately stood up to be the game-winner.

Toninato then appeared in the first game of the Jets’ second round series against the Montreal Canadiens but did not play in any of the subsequent games during the Canadiens’ sweep of the Jets.

Toninato is a depth signing for the Jets. He is a defensive centerman, who can also play the wing, and relies on his physical and no-nonsense play.
