Winnipeg Jets: Manitoba Moose Announce Evgeny Svechnikov Signing
A week ago from today, it was reported that the Winnipeg Jets were interested in signing the Detriot Red Wings’ former 2015 first-round pick, Evgeny Svechnikov, and Svechnikov was also mutually interested in signing a contract with the Jets.
Many people were uncertain on how the Jets front office would pull this signing off considering that Winnipeg is projected to be at least $5,000,000 above the salary cap ceiling.
Today’s first reports indicated that Svechnikov signed a professional tryout offer with the Jets, but that is no longer the case as the twenty-four-year-old has put pen to paper with the Jets’ AHL affiliate.

The Manitoba Moose have announced that Svechnikov has signed a one-year deal with the AHL club and Ken Wiebe has reported the deal has an average annual value of $215,000.
Svechnikov brings some NHL experience to the Moose as he has appeared in 41 games over the past five seasons with the Red Wings. During those games, the Russian native has five goals, seven assists, and a minus-six plus/minus. Last season alone, Svechnikov played in 21 games with Detroit and had a total of eight points.
The left-shooting winger has primarily played most of his time in North America in the AHL for the Grand Rapids Griffins. Svechnikov has 101 points (39 goals and 62 assists) in 186 AHL games played.
Svechnikov has shown during his time with the Griffins that he can be an outstanding offensive force and will look to put his offensive talents on full display with the Moose, in hopes of earning an NHL contract.
