The Winnipeg Jets have started to make their first transactions as they begin to assemble their roster for the upcoming 2021-2022 regular season.
The Jets’ first moves of this training camp involve two young prospect defensemen who were invited to both the Jets minicamp and main training camp. Those defensemen are Tyrel Bauer and Dmitry Kuzmin.
Bauer was originally selected by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, while Kuzmin was drafted by Winnipeg in the third round of this past summer’s draft.
The Winnipeg Jets have reassigned Tyrel Bauer to the Seattle Thunderbirds and Dmitry Kuzmin to the Flint Firebirds
This move should come as no surprise to Winnipeg supporters. Considering the Jets’ current defensive core, both of these players were extreme long shots to make the Jets roster. Since both of these players are ineligible to be assigned to the Manitoba Moose, they had to be assigned to junior.
Both Bauer and Kuzmin are players our site has already profiled as prospects to keep an eye on during the next season.
Bauer is returning to Seattle where he has played the last three full seasons and he was the captain of the team last season. Bauer impressed many in training camp with his fearless style of play. In 23 games during the 2021 season, Bauer had two goals, five assists, and had a minus-one plus/minus.
On the other hand, this will be Kuzmin’s first season in North America and in the OHL. He has played his whole career in Belarus, so it will be interesting to see how his game adapts against some tough OHL competition.
Stay tuned to our site throughout both Kuzmin’s and Bauer’s seasons as we will have updates on how these players are progressing.
