There is a considerable amount of excitement today regarding the Winnipeg Jets. Tonight they kick off the 2021-2022 regular season in Anaheim as they faceoff against the Ducks.
To add to this excitement, the Jets have just announced they signed Evgeny Svechnikov to a one-year contract, two-way contract with an average annual value of $750,000.
This contract comes after the Manitoba Moose signed the twenty-four-year-old to an AHL contract in August and he was invited to Jets training camp on a PTO. Before camp, our site wrote about how Svechnikov had the great opportunity to challenge for a vacant bottom-six lineup spot and he did exactly that.
Svechnikov impressed many throughout camp and the preseason and he earned himself an NHL contract.
Evgeny Svechnikov is projected to make his Winnipeg Jets debut tonight
Although Svechnikov was not on the Jets roster yesterday, he practiced on the Jets’ fourth line with Riley Nash and Kristian Vesalainen and that led many people to believe that Winnipeg was going to announce they signed the former first-round pick at some point before tonight’s game.
Svechnikov is expected to stay on that line with Nash and Vesalainen in the season opener. Last year, Svechnikov played in 21 games with the Red Wings and scored three goals while adding five assists.
Svechnikov is known for his great shot and expect him to employ a shoot-first mentality when with the puck.
In anticipation of the Svechnkov signing, the Jets announced that they have sent Ville Heinola to the AHL.
