There were a lot of positives going into yesterday’s game for the Winnipeg Jets.  On Saturday night, they ended their five-game losing streak, they were opening up a four-game homestand and were hosting the team with the second-lowest winning percentage in the NHL, the Arizona Coyotes.

Many people viewed this game as the perfect platform for the Jets to pick up two points to keep up the pace with the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild for first place in the Central Division.

Karel Vejmelka stole the show as he and the Arizona Coyotes shut out the Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg dominated this game and the shots were indicative of how the action transpired at the Canada Life Centre. The Jets outshot the Coyotes 17-7 in the first, 15-5 in the second, and 14-3 in the third bringing the shot totals to 46 for the Jets and 15 for the Coyotes.

Rookie goaltender, Karel Vejmelka stood strong throughout and made save after save to keep his team in the game.

Antoine Roussel was able to open the scoring in the dying stages of the second period. Arizona capitalized on a Winnipeg turnover as Loui Eriksson made a terrific backhanded pass to Roussel who redirected the puck past Connor Hellebuyck.

The goal was all the Coyotes needed to win this game as they stifled the Jets in the third period including killing a four-minute penalty in the final five minutes of the game to win this contest 1-0.

This was an extremely tough game to watch for Winnipeg supporters considering how the Jets controlled this game, but they could not equalize the score. The Jets finished this game zero-for-six on the man advantage. Vejmelka and the Coyotes defense deserve full credit for their efforts in this game,  they played outstanding to give their club the victory.

The Jets will have three days of rest before their next matchup, which is on Friday night when they host the New Jersey Devils.
