Just hours ago, our site wrote an article about which player from the Manitoba Moose the Winnipeg Jets should recall due to Blake Wheeler’s injury and the fact the Jets now only have eleven forwards and seven defensemen on their roster. (You can read that article by clicking here or the “NEXT” link at the bottom of this article.)
One player that we made the case for regarding getting a recall is David Gustafsson. The twenty-one-year-old is currently Manitoba’s leading point scorer and is tied for their team lead in goals with seven.
The Winnipeg Jets have recalled David Gustafsson from the Manitoba Moose
This should not come as a surprise and this was a roster move that many people expected. Gustafsson is projected to move right onto the Jets’ fourth line that consists of Jansen Harkins, as the center, and Kristian Vesalainen, on the left wing.
Gustafsson is expected to make his season debut in Winnipeg’s next game on Friday night when they host the Washington Capitals at the Canada Life Centre.
Gustaffson Looks to Impress
Since the 2019-2020 season, the young Swedish-born forward has played in 26 games for the Jets including four games last season.
There was an immense amount of hype surrounding Gustaffson when he appeared in 22 games in his rookie season, but he has failed to produce at the NHL level and his opportunities with the Jets have dwindled. In his 26 game career, Gustaffson only has one goal, but has not registered an assist and has a minus-three plus/minus.
With the Jets’ recent sluggish play, this call-up is a great opportunity for Gustaffson to work his into the Jets’ lineup and solidify his spot on the roster and in the lineup.
