The Winnipeg Jets are finally back after two weeks of no games as they face off against the Vegas Golden Knights this afternoon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. central time.

Winnipeg has not played since December 19, while the Golden Knights have played twice and won both of their games since NHL teams returned from the holiday break.

Those two wins have pushed Vegas to the top of the Pacific Division with 44 points in 34 games played.

The Winnipeg Jets look to start off 2022 with a win

One thing that can be seen as a positive about the Jets’ long layoff is they got a full week of practice under their interim head coach, Dave Lowry. It will be interesting to watch the style of play we see from the Jets now that Lowry had time to implement his strategies and systems.

Winnipeg Jets Lineup News

Cole Perfetti is projected to come back into the lineup after getting recalled from the Manitoba Moose to the taxi squad. He has been practicing on a regular line the past couple of days, including practicing on the Jets’ top powerplay unit.

Blake Wheeler is still on the long-term injured reserve with a knee injury and will miss today’s game.

Evgeny Svechnikov was a full participant in practice yesterday, but there has been no indication if he will play today.

Odds

The Winnipeg Jets are the underdogs in tonight’s game, courtesy of WynnBET.

This is the first time that Winnipeg and Vegas have matched up against each other this regular season and the sides will meet twice more during 2022 (both at the Canadian Life Centre).

It is interesting to note that during the past four seasons, the Jets have only once their first game of the new year once and that was the 2021 home opener.
