After a battle against the New Jersey Devils last night at the Prudential Center, the Winnipeg Jets will be making the short trip to UBS Arena for a game against the New York Islanders tonight. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time.

Last night the Jets kicked off their three-game road trip with a 2-1 win versus the Devils. Kyle Connor gave the Jets a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the second period and the Jets and Eric Comrie were able to deny the Devils of an equalizer in the final frame and held on to win 2-1.

The Jets were not the only team who played yesterday. Also last night, the Islanders welcomed the Columbus Blue Jackets to their new arena. Everything went right for the Islanders in this one as they beat their Metropolitian Division counterparts 6-0 and their captain, Anders Lee recorded his first career NHL hat trick.

Both the Winnipeg Jets and New York Islanders have an uphill battle to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs

Both teams were projected to be near the top of the standings at the end of the regular season, but that has not gone as both teams have played below expectations and sit outside of playoff position.

Heading into this game, the Jets are five points out of the second Western Conference Wild Card playoff spot, while the Islanders are twenty points out of the Eastern Conference Wild Card although they have five games in hand on the Washington Capitals.

The two points on the line are crucial for both of these teams as they head into the final stretch of the season and try to make a run at a postseason berth.

Odds

The Winnipeg Jets are listed as the underdogs for this evening’s game, courtesy of WynnBET.

Both Winnipeg and New York are coming off wins last night, although they were in much different fashions. The Jets played a close-run affair and held on to a one-goal third period lead, while the Islanders had their biggest win of the season. It will be interesting to see if this will have any effect on how each of these teams will start tonight’s game.

In the only prior matchup between the Jets and the Islanders this season, the Isles and Ilya Sorokin shutout the Jets and won 2-0.

With that being stated, one interesting thing to note is that the Jets have yet to beat any of the three New York NHL franchises this season. So far this regular season, the Jets have played one game each against the Islanders, Rangers, and Sabres (all at the Canada Life Centre) and they have lost all three matchups in regulation.
