The Winnipeg Jets are on home ice tonight at the Canada Life Centre for the second game of a three-game homestand as they host the Detroit Red Wings. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. central time.

The Jets need to win this game after they suffered a setback on Saturday in the Western Conference Wild Card Race. On Saturday the Jets kicked off this homestand against the Los Angeles Kings. Unfortunately for the Jets, things did not go well and they lost 3-1 to the Kings.

At this late stage of the season, that loss hurt the Jets’ chances of catching up in the Wild Card Race. The Jets now currently sit in fourth place in the Wild Card race.

They are six points behind the Vegas Golden Knights who are in third place, seven points behind the Dallas Stars who occupy the second Wild Card Spot, and trial the Nashville Predators who sit in the top Wild Card position by eight points. Both Nashville and Dallas have a game in hand on the Jets, while the Jets have a game in hand on Vegas.

The Winnipeg Jets need a win against the Detroit Red Wings who have been struggling but picked up a big win yesterday

This is the second game of a back-to-back for the Red Wings. Last night they faced off against the Boston Bruins in Detroit and the Red Wings won 5-3.

With that win, the Red Wings won their first game since March 22 and broke a six-game losing streak.

Odds

The Winnipeg Jets are listed as the favorites in this one, courtesy of WynnBET.

As mentioned above, Detroit won for the first time in their past seven games last night, but the Jets should approach this game with caution.

In their last four games against non-playoff teams, the Jets have won three of those all in overtime. Two overtime wins have come against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Arizona Coyotes, their shootout victory was versus the Buffalo Sabres, and their loss was against the Ottawa Senators.

With that being said, the Jets have struggled to put these non-playoff teams away and these games have gone down to the wire.

In the only prior matchup between these sides this regular season, Connor Hellebuyck got the 33 save shutout en route to the Jets’ 3-0 victory in Detroit.
