For the second straight year at the IIHF World Championship, a Winnipeg Jets player could win a Gold Medal. Last year, Cole Perfetti won the tournament with Canada.

In a repeat of last year’s Gold Medal Game between Canada and Finland, Canada was looking for back-to-back Championships while Finland was looking to sweep 2022 international tournaments after winning the Olympics in Beijing.

Winnipeg Jets Forwards, Adam Lowry and Pierre-Luc Dubois lost the Gold Medal Game to Finland in dramatic fashion

The teams traded chances in the first period, but neither side could find the back of the net and the teams went into the locker room tied at zero after one.

Dylan Cozens opened the scoring for Canada in the second period and the teams entered the third period with Canada holding a 1-0. Then a great, dramatic third period unfolded.

Finland started the third period at a lightning pace and bombarded Canada by scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into the final five minutes of regulation.

Canada then scored their no-quit attitude, which we have seen multiple times throughout this tournament, by scoring two goals to force the game into overtime.

Ultimately Finland completed their historic year when Sakari Manninen scored the overtime winner to clinch the Gold Medal for Finland on home ice.

Final Tournament Stats for Dubois and Lowry

Pierre-Luc Dubois had an outstanding tournament and was rewarded for his play by being named a Media All-Star of the tournament.

In ten games the pending restricted free agent had seven goals, six assists, and had a plus-11 plus/minus while averaging 17:14 per game.

Adam Lowry also had a solid tournament with four goals, five assists, and a plus-four rating in ten games. Lowry only averaged 13:53 of ice time per game.
