The NHL offseason is usually a wild ride as the Entry Draft comes and goes and teams make trades, new signings arrive, and franchises get ready for the upcoming season.
During the offseason grind, one thing that we see many NHL players, coaches, and executives do is play golf.
This past weekend, the PGA Tour Canada returned to Winnipeg for the CentrePort Canada Rail Park Manitoba Open at Southwood Golf & Country Club.
Among the list of players of professionals that were competing in this event, there was an amateur player listed that is extremely familiar to Winnipeg Jets fans.
Winnipeg Jets star forward, Mark Scheifele competed in last weekend’s event on a sponsor exemption.
Scheifele was the lone amateur in the field this weekend and this was his second time competing in a professional golf event. Back in 2018, Scheifele played in the Players Cup and shot a plus twenty-nine over two days.
Unfortunately, Winnipeg Jets forward, Mark Scheifele did not make the cut as a sponsor exemption at this PGA Tour Canada tournament.
On the first day of the four-day event, Scheifele fired a six-over 78, on the par 72 course. Scheifele started the round great posting a plus-one score on his opening front nine, which included back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes, but unfortunately, he finished the round with a plus-five on the back nine.
On Friday, the twenty-nine-year-old needed to post an extremely low score to make the cut to play the weekend, but he finished twelve-over on the round with an 84 score.
Scheifele finished the tournament eighteen over through two rounds, which placed him with the highest score at this event.
American, Parker Coody won this event in commanding fashion with an incredible 27 under through four rounds, which gave him an eight-shot victory.
