The Winnipeg Jets’ training camp and preseason are in full swing. With only two games remaining in their preseason, players are making their final cases to make the Jets’ season opening roster.

One player who has had a terrific preseason is twenty-year-old and former Winnipeg Jets 2020 second-round (40th overall) draft choice, Daniel Torgersson.

The six-foot-three-inch forward has featured in two of the four Jets preseason games. He had an impressive two-goal game against the Ottawa Senators and has two goals, three assists, four shots, and a plus-three plus/minus in his first NHL preseason.

Besides the stats, the young Swedish forward has impressed many with his hockey IQ. He has a knack for getting to the “quiet” areas of the ice and therefore puts himself in a position to have high percentage scoring opportunities.

The Winnipeg Jets have sent Daniel Togersson to the AHL to start the 2022-2023 season with the Manitoba Moose

Yesterday the Winnipeg Jets announced that they have trimmed their training camp roster by 16 players and one of the players that was assigned to the Manitoba Moose was Torgersson.

At the end of last season, after a great campaign with AIK, who compete in the second tier of Swedish hockey, Torgersson signed an entry-level contract with the Jets (that starts this season) and went on to finish the regular season with the Moose. Unfortunately due to his contract not beginning until this season, he was ineligible for the 2022 AHL playoffs.

Although it was a small sample size, Torgersson played extremely well in his four games with the Moose. In those four games, he had two goals, one assist, and a plus-two plus/minus.

There may be value in Torgersson starting this upcoming season in the AHL. This will give him a larger sample size in the North American game.

He has shown what he can do in a short period of time and has turned many heads this preseason but playing with the Moose may allow him to get more ice time as a top-six Moose forward compared to being a bottom-six Jets forward.

With a great start to this upcoming season, Torgersson may be one of the first forwards to be called up if the Jets face injury or goal scoring troubles.
