The Winnipeg Jets have made their decision today on eighteen-year-old forward and 2022 30th overall draft pick, Brad Lambert.
The Jets have released Lambert from their training camp and preseason to their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.
The reason why Lambert is “released” rather than “reassigned” or “placed on waivers” like other players, is because Lambert is still unsigned.
The Winnipeg Jets have decided on Brad Lambert
Lambert has taken the Jets by storm this preseason. He went from being a longshot to make the Jets’ opening night roster to one of the last players cut.
The young forward played in three preseason games with the Jets and scored one goal, added one assist, had a plus-two plus/minus, seven shots on goal, and two penalty minutes.
All of Lambert’s preseason points came in his NHL preseason debut against the Montreal Canadiens in the same arena he was drafted in. Lambert’s only goal came at a timely moment as it was the game-tying goal in the final minutes of the game.
Besides his stat line, Lambert impressed many with his impressive speed and skill. Many would argue that he is already up to NHL speed.
Site contributor, Brian Finlayson pointed out in his What do the Jets do with Lambert article, is that playing in the AHL can help Lambert adapt to the North American game as Lambert has played in Finland since 2017. This could have played a factor in the Jets’ decision to release Lambert to Manitoba.

The Moose begin their season next weekend and it will be interesting to see if the Jets sign Lambert to an entry-level contract before the AHL season begins.
As seen in the tweet in this article, the Jets also placed Johnathan Kovacevic on waivers today. If he clears waivers, the defenseman will join the Moose.
