Today is the final day of the 2022 NHL offseason. By 4:00 p.m. central time, franchises have to be compliant with the salary cap and roster rules.

Therefore, yesterday many players hit waivers as franchises were trimming their rosters. The Winnipeg Jets only had one player sent to waivers and that was Jansen Harkins.

Around the NHL, there were many veteran names on the waiver wire including the likes of Nick Foligno, Mike Reilly, Wayne Simmonds, Kyle Clifford, and Philippe Myers.

The Winnipeg Jets have claimed Axel Jonsson-Fjällby off waivers from the Washington Capitals

According to Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC on Twitter), the Jets claimed Axel Jonsson-Fjällby off waivers.

Because Jonsson-Fjällby was picked up off waivers, the left-winger has to be included on the Jets’ season opening roster.

The twenty-four-year-old made his NHL debut last season with Washington. He appeared in 23 regular season games but did not play in the postseason. During the regular season, he scored two goals, added two assists, had four penalty minutes, and an even plus/minus.

Last year, the Sweden native also played 44 games with the Capitals’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In those 44 games, he had 16 goals, 18 assists, and a minus-two plus/minus.

Jonsson-Fjällby had spent his whole career in the Capitals’ organization. He was originally drafted by Washington in the fifth round of the 2016 entry draft.

Jansen Harkins Cleared Waivers

In other Jets news, Winnipeg forward Jansen Harkins has cleared waivers and has been reassigned to the Manitoba Moose.

This may have Jets supporters relieved after Jets’ defenseman, Johnathan Kovacevic was claimed off waivers by the Montreal Canadiens over this past weekend.
