Tonight the Winnipeg Jets have their season and home opener for the 2022-2023 season as they face off against the New York Rangers at the Canada Life Centre. Earlier today, the popular video game publisher EA Sports released the next edition game in their NHL series, EA Sports NHL 23.
Before EA Sports released the game, they did a full season simulation to predict the final regular season standings, the playoff bracket, and which team will be lifting the Stanley Cup next June.
The simulation had some interesting results and many people do not believe this will be indicative of how the 2022-2023 season will actually play out.
NHL 23 predicts the Winnipeg Jets will miss the postseason for the second straight season
The simulation has shown that the Jets will finish sixth in the Central Division and will miss out on the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Regular season point totals were not listed with the final results and they do not show how many points the Jets finished outside of the Wild Card playoff spots.
The one interesting thing to look at in this simulation is that four teams from each division will qualify for the playoffs. Last year, the Central Division had five teams qualify for the postseason, while the Pacific Division only had three teams in the postseason.
At the end of the postseason, NHL 23 has the Pittsburgh Penguins winning the Stanley Cup in seven games against the Colorado Avalanche. This would be Sidney Crosby’s fourth time hoisting the Stanley Cup and the Penguin’s first time winning the Cup since 2017.
In this simulation, Crosby also was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the 2023 postseason.
