Winnipeg Jets vs Golden Knights: Jets Look for Back-to-Back Wins
The Winnipeg Jets are back in action just 24 hours after they completed their game in Denver last night. Tonight the Jets are in Vegas as they take on the Golden Knights. The Opening puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. central time.
Last night, the Jets beat the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Colorado Avalanche in overtime by a 4-3 scoreline.
The Jets had a 3-1 lead in the final five minutes of the second period, but the Avalanche scored twice before the second frame ended to tie the game at 3-3. The game went scoreless in the third period and required overtime to find a winner. Neal Pionk scored the game winning goal on a terrific slapshot to seal both points for the Jets. That was Pionk’s second goal of last night’s contest.
On the other hand, the Golden Knights were last in action on Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames. Vegas spoiled a two-goal first period lead and lost 3-2 to the Flames. That was the Golden Knights’ first loss of the new season. Before this game against Calgary, Vegas started this season with a three-game winning streak.
The Winnipeg Jets look to end this three-game road trip with back-to-back wins
Tonight is the first time in this new season that the Jets have games on back-to-back nights. Yesterday, the Jets made a couple of lineup changes. Nikolaj Ehlers missed the game due to an injury and was replaced in the lineup by Axel Jonsson-Fjällby. Also, Dylan Samberg replaced Logan Stanley and the Jets’ coaching staff switched around the defensive pairings.
There is no indication if Ehlers will be available for tonight’s game. Since the Jets won in Colorado, it is expected that the Jets’ skaters will remain the same if Ehlers is unavailable. If Ehlers is healthy to play then there will likely be only one lineup change to Winnipeg’s skaters for this contest.
*After this article was published, it was announced that Ehlers will not play against Vegas.*
The only change the Jets are expected to make is that David Rittich will make his Winnipeg Jets debut in goal after Connor Hellebuyck got the win in Colorado. Hellebuyck has started all three regular season games for the Jets.
Rittcih’s last start was over two weeks ago in the Jets’ second-to-last preseason game. The thirty-year-old netminder stopped all 37 shots he faced in Winnipeg’s 5-0 shutout win over the Flames.
