The Winnipeg Jets are only four games into the 2022-2023 season and their injury troubles have already begun.
Going into this past Wednesday’s game against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Nikolaj Ehlers was ruled out due to an undisclosed injury. Ehlers then missed the Jets game the next night against the Golden Knights.
The Winnipeg Jets have recalled Dominic Toninato from the Manitoba Moose
With Ehlers being sidelined, the Jets had a vacant roster spot and they have recalled forward Dominic Toninato from the Manitoba Moose.
Toninato comes back to the Jets after he was sent to waivers on October 13 for purpose of reassignment to the Moose. Fortunately for the Jets, the power forward cleared waivers and started this season in the AHL.
Last weekend, the twenty-eight-year-old appeared in one out of the two Moose’s season opening games. He did not record any points in the game he appeared in but he did have two shots and an even plus/minus.
Toninato played a career-high 77 games last season in the NHL with the Jets and he set a career high in goals and points with seven goals, seven assists, 14 points, a plus-one plus/minus, and 22 penalty minutes.
During the 2021-2022 season, the Duluth Minnesota native had the third most shorthanded time on ice among Jets’ forwards. Therefore, he provides the Jets coaching staff the ability to step right into the Jets’ penalty kill which currently is ranked 15th in the NHL with an 80% success rate.

Toninato could feature in the Jets’ lineup tomorrow night when the Jets begin a two-game homestand at the Canada Life Centre with a matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
