3 Talking Points: Winnipeg Jets Lose 2-1 to Golden Knights in Overtime
The Winnipeg Jets finished their road trip with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Here are three talking points from the loss.
Last night, the Winnipeg Jets finished their three-game road trip with a matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena.
This was the Jets’ second trip to Las Vegas this season and they were looking for a better showing this time around. During the first meeting between these sides, the Jets allowed four first period goals and lost 5-2 to the Golden Knights.
The Jets only made one lineup change from their 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Friday for this game as Connor Hellebuyck got the start in goal after Rittich got his first win of the season on Friday.
3. A Successful Road Trip
This road trip has been extremely interesting for the Jets. In their first game, against the Los Angeles Kings, the Jets were outshot 44-19, were dominated for points in the game, and somehow won 6-4.
Then last night, again the Jets were second best on the night, this time getting outshot 48-24, and they earned a point in the overtime loss.
Just looking at the results, this was a successful trip for the Jets. Winnipeg picked up five of a possible six points and they now sit in a tie with the Dallas Stars for first place in the Central Division with 11 points in 9 games.
2. Jack Eichel Has the Winnipeg Jets Number This Year
Throughout the first ten games of the Golden Knights season, Eichel has had some of his best performances this year in Vegas’ two games against the Winnipeg Jets.
Eichel was coming into yesterday’s game after scoring two goals and finishing with a plus-three plus/minus in the first matchup between the Jets and Golden Knights.
In yesterday’s matchup, Eichel played 21:10, had an assist on the Golden Knight’s tying goal in the third period, and then scored the game winning goal on an incredible solo effort in the dying stages of overtime.

Most fans would agree, that Eichel’s game winner was an outstanding goal as he took advantage of a tired Jets group and made a great move to beat Hellebuyck and seal the win for the Golden Knights.
1. Incredible Performance by Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck was one of the main reasons why the Winnipeg Jets finished their road trip with a point versus Vegas. The former Vezina Trophy winner was on his A-game and put in a vintage performance.
After picking up his first shutout of the season last Monday and then making 40 saves on Thursday, the twenty-nine-year-old followed these performances with 46 saves on 48 shots versus Vegas.

If Hellebuyck was not in net and was just a little off of his game, this game could have been extremely out of hand. The Golden Knights were clearly the better side, but Hellebuyck kept the Jets in the game and was one of the main reasons why the Jets left Vegas with a point.
