The Winnipeg Jets beat the Dallas Stars 5-1. Here are three talking points from the Jets’ impressive win over their Central Division foe.

The Winnipeg Jets had an intriguing Central Division matchup last night against the Dallas Stars at the Canada Life Centre.

This matchup pitted the top-two teams in the division against each other as the Jets entered this game two points behind the first place Stars, but Winnipeg has a game in hand on their counterparts.

Rick Bowness and the Winnipeg Jets coaching staff only made one change to the Jets’ lineup from their impressive 4-0 shutout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon as Dylan Samberg replaced Kyle Capobianco.

The Jets continued their great run of form last night as they beat the Stars 5-1. Here are three talking points from the Jets’ third straight win:

3. The Point Streak Continues and a Perfect Homestand

The Jets entered this game on a great six-game point streak (5-0-1 record) which helped propel them up the standings.

Fortunately, things continued to go well for the Jets as they continued their point streak to seven games and now sit tied atop the division standings with a game in hand.

This win also capped off a perfect three-game homestand for the Jets as they started the homestand with a 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens last Thursday and then beat Chicago on Saturday. The Jets have a 5-1-0 record at the Canada Life Centre.

2. Three Goals in Three Minutes

It felt like last year if the Jets would control the play as they did in the first period in this one, then would allow a goal, that would be it for the Jets. Their opponent would find their game and the Jets would falter.

But the 2022-2023 Jets look to be different as we watched last night. After the Jets dominated the first period, at the start of the second period Jason Robertson scored to put Dallas ahead. But 21 seconds later the Jets answered right back courtesy of Mark Scheifele.

Then 70 seconds later, the Jets took the lead as they capitalized on a Scott Wedgewood turnover in which Pierre-Luc Dubois scored.

Then less than two minutes later, Scheifele scored his second of the night. Kyle Connor made an outstanding individual play in the Stars’ defensive zone and Scheifele found quiet ice in the slot. Connor then made a terrific pass to Scheifele and the Jets’ number 55 slotted the puck home to give the Jets a 3-1 lead.

Saku Maenalanen was able to score his first Jets goal towards the end of the second to put the Jets up 4-1 after two.

This was a fantastic second period for the Jets, especially the three minutes after Robertson scored.

1. Another Complete Performance by the Winnipeg Jets

One thing was common from the Jets’ first couple of wins of the season, the Jets relied heavily on Connor Hellebuyck, but over the past couple of games, this has changed.

Hellebuyck has been great over this point streak, but over the past week, it has been a full team effort by the Jets.

In this win over Dallas, the Jets controlled the first period dominating the shots total of 18-8 but unfortunately could not find the back of the net.

The Jets continued this push into the second period and were finally rewarded with four second period goals and then they added an empty netter in the third, courtesy of Mason Appleton.

Regardless of how much ice time each Jets player is amassing, each Jet is playing a role and contributing in the win. Over this streak and in yesterday’s game, the Jets are showing they are a four-line team.
