Mikey Eyssimont Gets Much Deserved Call-up to Winnipeg Jets
For the past week or so, the Winnipeg Jets have only had 22 players on their roster when the NHL has a roster limit of 23 players. One reason why the Jets may have waited to call a player up from the AHL was due to Nikolaj Ehlers’ lower-body injury and potential return from the injured reserve.
Before yesterday’s practice, the Jets announced that they have recalled Mikey Eyssimont from the Manitoba Moose. Then after the practice, Jets’ head coach, Rick Bowness revealed that Ehlers will miss the Jets’ two-game road trip this weekend and may possibly begin skating next week.
Mikey Eyssimont’s call-up to the Winnipeg Jets is much deserved
Eyssimont returns to the Jets after starting the season in the AHL with the Moose in which he was tied for the team lead in points with two goals, seven assists, and a plus-8 plus/minus.
The twenty-six-year-old led the Moose in points during the 2021-2022 season with 18 goals, 24 assists, and a plus-15 plus/minus. Eyssimont was rewarded with a call-up to the Jets last April and he went on to make his NHL debut against the Montreal Canadiens, but that was his only game time with the Jets.
The Colorado native had an outstanding training camp and preseason with the Jets and showed his ability to play a hard-nosed style of play, as he is tenacious on the forecheck and in the corners, with the ability to pick up points. But he was ultimately reassigned to the Moose as the Jets were trimming down their preseason roster.
Fellow Jets White Out writer, Brian Finlayson, listed Eyssimont as one player that could receive a call-up this year, and this prediction was spot on. In his article, Brian wrote about how Eyssimont is someone with great hockey IQ and has a knack for retrieving loose pucks. *You can read Brian’s article in the “Related Story” link directly below this paragraph*
Mikey Eyssimont definitely deserves this recall to the NHL. He led the line for the Moose last season and was doing the same to start this 2022-2023 season. The forward can be a good option in a bottom-six role for the Jets and can be a useful player in wearing down opposition defensemen.

Eyssimont has a chance to make his season debut this weekend as the Jets have two away games in under 24 hours. Tonight (November 12) the Jets take on the Calgary Flames and tomorrow (November 13) evening the Jets match up against the Seattle Kraken.
