Starting with the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, the NHL changed the rules and the draft was reduced from nine rounds to seven rounds. Since 2005, we have seen many great players come out of the draft’s final round. Some of those players include Frederik Andersen, Patric Hornqvist, Anton Strålman, Ondrej Palat, and Mackenzie Weegar.

At this past summer’s draft in Montreal, the Jets had the 14th pick in the seventh round and drafted goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis with the 207th overall pick and he is someone who should be on Jets supporters’ radars.

Prior to being drafted by the Jets, in 2021-2022, DiVincentiis played in his first OHL season with the North Bay Battalion. In his rookie OHL season, the netminder put up some nice numbers with a 14-8-1 record, a 2.59 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage.

Before this season began, the eighteen-year-old participated in the Winnipeg Jets rookie camp and was subsequently invited to training camp as an unsigned draft pick. Shortly into training camp, DiVincentiis was returned back to North Bay.

The young prospect netminder is having a great start to the 2022-2023 season and has helped place the Battalion in an early season tie for first place in the Central Division with 24 points in 17 games (12-5-0 record) with the Mississauga Steelheads. This record also places the Battalion in second place in the Eastern Conference.

DiVincentiis is currently tied for the OHL lead in wins with 10 as he posts a 10-3-0 record. Also, the Bolton, Ontario native ranks ninth best in goals against average with a 2.72 average. Finally, through thirteen games this season, DiVincentiis has a save percentage of .0899 which is tied for 18th best in the league.

DiVincentiis is definitely a Jets prospect that you may want to watch moving forward. He has shown his potential in Junior and it will be interesting to watch his development. It is worth noting that the goaltender is still an unsigned draft pick.
