DUCHENE, DUCHENE, DUCHENE!!!

I know I’ve already said it in my previous articles, but in my opinion, Matt Duchene is our man. He’s on fire right now with Ottawa. 27 points in 21 games, top five in the league in scoring, does it get much better? Oh wait, it does. He can be a rental player for the Winnipeg Jets, instead of a long term haul.

Duchene is a UFA at the end of the year, and I think it’s fair to say there’s a slim chance he’ll want to re-sign with the Senators. This makes him a rental player, who’ll be traded for picks/prospects at or before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Well, I think it’s safe to say we’re going to be pretty tight with the cap this offseason, making a rental player all the more sensible. If we took a guy like Karlsson, sure we get a guy who’s really good that we can keep, but man, our cap situation isn’t going to be easy to deal with, unless some guys can take some big pay cuts.

Maybe we’d re-sign Duchene, but it’s not really an obligation like Karlsson. We wouldn’t be trading for multiple seasons of him, where we would be by acquiring Karlsson. Duchene’s trade value would be just as much time as we could get him for the remainder of the season.

Also think about this. Bryan Little, nine points. Matt Duchene, twenty seven. Duchene has more goals than Little has points, just to put it out there…

Could we get him? For sure, but we’re looking at coughing up a first rounder and a prospect, like the Stastny for Foley and a first rounder deal. I think that’s a fair price for another good shot at Lord Stanley…

I’m liking the sound of Duchene a lot more every time I think about it. Chevy, please make this move for our Winnipeg Jets, it would be a good one.
