Today was a huge day at the Winnipeg Jets training camp and it culminated with the Jets sending a group of players to Manitoba and they also released two.

Today could be considered moving day at training camp for the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets moved their practices from Bell MTS Iceplex to their home arena, Bell MTS Place. Also, the Jets had an intrasquad scrimmage today, that was live-streamed for the whole hockey world to see.

Regardless of the results of the scrimmage, it was anticipated that the Jets were going to make roster moves today because they need to trim their roster to the 23-players for opening night.

After the game, the Jets decided to send seven players to their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. Those players are Mikhail Berdin, Declan Chisholm, Luke Green, Johnathan Kovacevic, Joona Luoto, Skyler McKenzie, and Kristian Reichel.

All of these players are twenty-three-years-old or younger, so it may be best for their development to start the season with the Moose rather than sitting on the bench with the Jets.

The Manitoba Moose and the AHL are scheduled to start their season on February 5, 2021, but there is still no word on when AHL teams will start their training camps.

When the Jets sent these seven to the Moose they also released two players from camp. Those players are Cole Kehler and Jimmy Oligny. Both of them were signed to PTO’s before camp.

Kehler is a goaltender from Altona, Manitoba and he played 31 games last year with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL, while also suiting up in one AHL game for the Ontario Reign.

Oligny played for the Manitoba Moose the past two and a half seasons. In 2019-2020, Olginy had four goals, 12 assists, 43 penalty minutes, and a -2 plus/minus in 53 games played.

These are only the first of the Jets roster moves and they will definitely be announcing more moves in the coming days before their opening game against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
