The night before the Winnipeg Jets’ first contest before 2021, the Jets have just announced they have signed two-time Stanley Cup Champion Trevor Lewis.
When the Winnipeg Jets named their training camp roster, there was one player on the roster that caught many people by surprise. That player was Trevor Lewis and he was listed as attending training camp on a professional tryout.
Lewis was one of three players who was invited to Jets camp on a PTO. This was a low-risk high-reward move for the Winnipeg Jets by inviting the thirty-four-year-old to camp to compete for a spot.
During camp, Lewis skated on a line with Nate Thompson, who was signed this offseason, and a Jansen Harkins. Harkins suffered an injury during camp and both Kristian Vesalainen and Mathieu Perreault skated on the wing with Lewis and Thompson.
Lewis impressed both the Jets coaching staff and players during camp. In the Jets’ first intrasquad scrimmage, Lewis scored a goal and had an assist on Harkins’ game-winning goal.
Lewis had quite the impression during camp that today he was rewarded with a one-year contract with the Jets.
According to the Winnipeg Jets website, the Jets have signed Lewis to a one-year deal worth an average annual value of $750,000.
Lewis comes to the Jets after being with the Los Angeles Kings organization for 12 years. He was originally drafted by the Kings as the seventeenth overall selection of the first round in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
During his 674 games played with the Kings, Lewis has amassed 70 goals and 93 assists while winning two Stanley Cups with the club.
Lewis will be available to play in tomorrow’s home opener against the Calgary Flames.
