The Winnipeg Jets have made an interesting roster move today. The Jets have claimed goaltender, Anton Forsberg off waivers from Carolina.
Earlier this week, the Winnipeg Jets placed goaltender Eric Comrie on waivers, and unfortunately for the Jets, Comrie was snatched up by the New Jersey Devils who were in need of some goaltending depth.
This then put the Jets in a similar situation that the Devils were in, the Jets needed depth in the goaltending department. Today, the Jets have figured out that issue.
According to Pierre LeBrun, “The Winnipeg Jets claimed goalie Anton Forsberg off waivers.” This is great news for the Jets, but as LeBrun has shown in the tweet below, now that the Jets have acquired Anton Forsberg they are in an interesting roster situation.
If the Jets wish to move Forsberg to their taxi squad, Forsberg must pass through waivers again. According to Cap Friendly, Forsberg’s contract carries an average annual value of $700,000.
With this current contract, there is a good chance that another team would step in and claim Forsberg. It has already happened twice this week!
Earlier this week, Forsberg was placed on waivers by Edmonton and Carolina subsequently claimed him. Yesterday, Carolina then had to place Forsberg on waivers and Winnipeg picked him up today. There is a very good chance that this will happen again if Forsberg hits the waiver wire.
Forsberg comes to Winnipeg after spending a majority of last season with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL and played in three contests with the Hurricanes. In 27 games with Charlotte, Forsberg posted a 15-9-2 record with a 2.95 goals against average, and a .905 save percentage.
In his three appearances with the Hurricanes, the twenty-eight-year-old had a 3.35 GAA, .897 SV%, and a 1-1-0 record. Forsberg has yet to appear in any games this season.
