After losing in the final second of the game on Sunday night against the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets came into last night’s game looking for retribution.

The Jets had a great opportunity to split the points from their two-game series with the Oilers last night at Bell MTS Place.

Fortunately, the Jets did just that last night. The Jets were trailing the game, but fought hard to comeback and beat the Oilers 6-4.

The Winnipeg Jets’ solid performance in the second half of the game propelled them to a 6-4 win over the Oilers.

Here are three talking points from last night’s Jets comeback win:

3. Another Comeback for the Jets

If there is one thing that looks noticeable from the Winnipeg Jets in the early stages of the 2021 season is they look extremely comfortable playing from behind, trailing by a goal or two at any point of the game.

The Jets found themselves down by two goals midway through the first period, but they stuck to their gameplan. Perreault scored to put the Jets down by one going into the dressing room after one. Then in the third frame, the Jets exploded with three goals more unanswered goals in the third to take a commanding 5-3 lead.

Out of the Jets’ five wins in this young season, they have trailed in four of those games. Although that may not look pretty about the Jets having to comeback in eighty percent of their wins, it speaks volumes about the resiliency and fight of the Jets and is an extremely positive sign.

2. Great third period performance

Going into the third period down by one goal, many people thought this game was going to go right down to the wire just like the first game between these two teams, but the Jets had other ideas.

Just under seven minutes into the period, Ehlers, Stastny, and Lowry scored in a three and a half minute span to give the Jets a two-goal lead.

The Jets put their foot on the pedal and did not look back. They controlled the game and made it extremely tough for Edmonton to mount a comeback.

Edmonton eventually scored their fourth goal, with under two minutes remaining in the game, but Copp answered with an empty-net goal to seal the game for the Jets.

After blowing their one-goal lead on Sunday, the Jets dictated the game with the lead last night instead of just defending it. It was extremely fun to watch the Jets in the third and hopefully this performance carries over to their upcoming games.

1. The Second Line leads the way

Now that Patrik Laine was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Jets had a hole to fill on their second line. Subsequently, they promoted Andrew Copp to play alongside Paul Stastny and Nikolaj Ehlers.

It is fair to say that this line was the best line for the Jets in yesterday’s win. Besides tying the game at one in the first, this line started the Jets’ third period comeback.

Ehlers scored the game-tying goal three minutes into the third and Stastny scored a crucial goal two minutes later to give the Jets the 4-3 lead.

Copp added the empty netter and put the cap on a great performance from the Jets’ second line. Stastny finished the game with two points, while Copp and Ehlers finished the game with four points each.

This was by far the best performance from this line since they were put together last week when Laine was put on the injured reserve.

If they keep on performing like this, Paul Maurice and the Jets coaching staff are going to have some interesting decisions to make when Pierre-Luc Dubois is available for selection.

The Jets have a couple of days of rest before they are back in action. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks. This will be the Jets’ fourth game of their current seven-game homestand.
