Yesterday the Winnipeg Jets started their five-game road trip with a two-game series in Montreal against the Canadiens.

Winnipeg came into this game after winning their last game at home against the Canucks. The only lineup change Paul Maurice and the Jets coaching staff made was in the Jets’ goal.

Connor Hellebuyck got the start yesterday after Laurent Brossoit started on Tuesday. Last night’s game was a tough battle. Both teams traded goals and ultimately the game needed overtime to decide a winner

Pierre-Luc Dubois scored the overtime winner to give the Winnipeg Jets a 4-3 win

Here are three talking points from last night’s Jets win:

3. Stastny Scores Two

With Dubois healthy and the Jets full speed ahead, Paul Maurice decided to move Paul Stastny to the first line alongside Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele.

Stastny played outstanding last night. He was second for Jets’ forwards in time on ice, had three shots on goal, and was 50% in faceoffs.

The Jets number 25 added to this great stat line with two goals. His second goal was outstanding. Stastny walked out of the corner and brought the puck towards Jake Allen’s net.

Allen was down and with a flick of the wrist, Stastny fired the puck over his shoulder to give Winnipeg a 3-2 lead.

Paul Stastny was without a doubt one of the Jets’ star performers last night against Montreal and he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on with his new line.

2. Hellebuyck Outstanding Save Extends the Game

With just under two minutes left in overtime, Montreal took a shot on Hellebuyck and forced him to make a pad save.

Unfortunately, this save left a rebound in the slot for Tatar. As Hellebuyck was falling over, he dove to his right side to deny Tatar the game-winning goal. This save was outstanding and one of those that Jets supporters can watch on replay again and again.

Ultimately these saves kept the Jets in the game and less than a minute later they scored the game winner.

1. The Jets Win in Overtime, Again!

As our own Dan St.Joseph mentioned the last the Jets won in overtime (which was also against Montreal), there is a confidence that Winnipeg Fans have when the team goes into three-on-three action. There is a confidence that the Jets will win every game that goes past sixty minutes.

Last night only boosted that confidence. Nikolaj Ehlers skated down into Montreal’s end with the puck and made a fantastic play that drew two men to him.

Ehlers then fed the puck to Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was wide open in the slot, and Dubois went bardown to give the Jets two points. This goal was an absolute thing of beauty:

Currently, the Jets have won five of six games that have gone past regulation. Their only extra-time loss came in a shootout against the Flames.

Winnipeg has been such a fun team to watch in overtime and these points will make a big difference in the long run for making the playoffs and playoff positioning.

The Jets will finish their series with the Canadiens tomorrow night at Centre Bell. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time.
