The Winnipeg Jets went into last night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens looking to build on their performance from the first game of this two-game series, in which they won 4-2, and complete the sweep against the Canadiens.

The Canadiens were not pleased with their performance on Thursday night and were looking for a much better performance in this one.

But the Jets brought their A-game yesterday and Montreal was zero match for Winnipeg as the Jets finished their series with Montreal with all four points.

The Winnipeg Jets dominated the game en route to a 5-0 victory

Here are three talking points from yesterday’s Jets win:

3. Winnipeg Improves their Win Streak

The Jets started this month by getting swept by the first place Toronto Maple Leafs on home ice. These games were deflating for the Winnipeg supporters considering how well the team had been playing before they lost two straight to Toronto.

Fortunately, the Jets rebounded right away in their next game against Ottawa winning 4-3. Then the Jets started this important road trip with another win on Thursday night.

Last night the Jets played their best game of the month as they improved this winning run to three games.

This win streak has helped the Jets leap the Edmonton Oilers in the standings and back into second place with a game in hand on Edmonton.

The Jets have a great opportunity to extend this streak as they head to Ottawa for a two-game set against the Senators on Monday and Wednesday.

2. Special Teams Makes the Difference

In any given NHL game, special teams may be the difference in a team winning a game or ultimately losing a game.

In yesterday’s contest between Winnipeg and Montreal, special teams was clearly one of the factors in the Jets winning this game.

The Jets absolutely dominated the special teams battle. Winnipeg went two-for-five on the powerplay with goals from Nikolaj Ehlers and Andrew Copp, while going an impressive three-for-three on the penalty kill.

Winnipeg’s special team’s performance put the cap on a historic night for the Jets.

1. The Jets Make History in Montreal

For the first time in Winnipeg Jets franchise history, the Jets did something in a road game in Montreal that they have yet to do before.

That is the Jets shutout the Montreal Canadiens for the first time in Montreal. Up to this point, no team in Winnipeg Jets franchise history has yet to accomplish this feat.

Yesterday the Jets played outstanding. Hellebuyck made 19 saves en route to his 20th win of this season.

Winnipeg completely shut down Montreal’s offense, allowing pretty much no “Grade-A” scoring opportunities.

The Jets’ first shutout in Montreal was a pleasure to watch and is deservedly the number one talking point of last night’s game.
