For the Winnipeg Jets to be a successful team, they need every player to step up night in and night out regardless of where they stand on the depth chart or on the roster.

Our site is handing out a seventh man award which is the equivalent of the sixth man award that the NBA gives out at the end of each season. This award is given to the best performing substitute player. This player is not a starter, but comes off the bench and helps his team in a big way.

Since there are five skaters and one goaltender on the ice, we are calling this our “seventh man award.” Throughout this season, many players had to come off the bench and step up for the Winnipeg Jets when injures occurred or their star players needed a rest.

This award goes to a player that did not often play for the Jets, but when he did, he performed extremely well and helped the Jets win many games en route to helping Winnipeg secure a playoff berth.

Laurent Brossoit is the Winnipeg Jets seventh man of the year

Winnipeg gave Brossoit a one-year $1.5 million contract before the start of the season to backup reigning Vezina trophy winning goaltender, Connor Hellebuyck.

This move paid off dividends for the Jets as their number thirty played outstanding during the 2021 regular season.

In his 14 games played, including 11 starts, Brossoit posted a 6-6-0 record with a terrific 2.42 goals against average and .918 save percentage.

Brossoit’s arguably best game of this year came on February 19 against the Canucks in Vancouver

. During that game, the twenty-eight-year-old stopped all 29 shots he faced en route to picking up his first shutout since the 2018-2019 season.

Brossoit always gave the Jets a chance to win when he was their starting goaltender. In his first six starts of the season, the Port Alberni, British Columbia native won five of those games.

Brossoit had the biggest impact of any of the Jets’ substitute players this season and therefore is our pick for the “7th Man Award.”

Laurent Brossoit will be an unrestricted free agent if the Jets do not sign him by July 28. It will be interesting to see if the Jets front office extends an offer to Brossoit considering how well he played this past season.
