As our site wrote about earlier today, Winnipeg Jets star and arguably Team MVP from the 2021 season, Nikolaj Ehlers was the difference in Denmark’s win in their first game at the Qualifiers for the 2022 Olympic Games.
In Denmark’s first game, Ehlers led his country with two goals en route to a 4-3 win over Slovenia to open the round-robin.
Less than 24 hours after the completion of that game, Ehlers and his fellow countrymen were back in action today against South Korea.
Nikolaj Ehlers, of the Winnipeg Jets, led Denmark with six points in their rout of South Korea
Oddly enough, it was Korea who opened the scoring to today’s contest and the scoreline was tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period, but Denmark ran away with the game during the final two periods.
In the second and third periods, Denmark scored a total of ten goals to win by an impressive 11-1 scoreline against a country that featured at the last Winter Olympic Games.
Ehlers led the line with a total of six points, in which he scored two goals on six shots and added four assists in the win.
It is interesting to note that one of Ehlers’ goals and three of his assists came while Denmark was on the powerplay. Denmark impressively scored four powerplay goals on five attempts and Ehlers had a hand in all of those goals.
Ehlers and Denmark, who are currently undefeated, will be playing their final group game on Sunday against Norway. If Denmark wins that game, they will be history makers as they will clinch a spot at the Olympics for the first time in their history.
