Winnipeg Jets CHL Prospects Report At the Early Stages of November 2021
During today’s Winnipeg Jets off day, our site will be doing another Jets prospects report. Last week, we did a feature on Winnipeg’s prospects that are applying their trade in Europe.
This week our site will focus our attention on the two Jets draft picks that are playing junior hockey in Canada.
Those two players are both defensemen that were both invited to Jets training camp but ultimately sent to their respective junior teams during the first round of cuts at camp.
Winnipeg Jets prospects, Tyrel Bauer and Dmitri Kuzmin are both playing well to start the season
Below each player will be listed with their current team, the league their team is a member of in parenthesis, and when they were drafted by the Jets.
Tyrel Bauer
Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)- 2020 6th Round
Bauer is an imposing, physical defenseman who impressed many with his play at Winnipeg’s training camp. The nineteen-year-old has started this season extremely well for Seattle.
As the captain of his team, Bauer has two goals and three assists in 12 games including amassing an impressive plus-10 plus/minus.
This past weekend, Bauer and the Thunderbirds swept the Tri-City Americans in a two-game series. During those two games, Bauer had two assists, a plus-three plus/minus, four shots, and six penalty minutes.
Seattle is in a tie with the Everett Silvertips for first place in the U.S. Division of the WHL. The Thunderbirds are currently on a seven-game winning streak.
Next Game: 11/12 vs. Portland Winterhawks
Dmitri Kuzmin
Flint Firebirds (OHL): 2021 3rd Round
Contrary to Bauer’s style of play, Kuzmin is a smaller defenseman who is known for his skating ability and his terrific playmaking skills.
Kuzmin who is playing his first season in North American and is a rookie in the OHL, has started the season well with his new team.
The eighteen-year-old has played in seven of Flint’s nine games and has one goal, five assists, and a minus-two plus/minus.
Kuzmin’s current point total currently puts him in a tie for fourth on his team in points. The young defenseman had a couple of good performances this past weekend. Flint won both of their games and Kuzmin had an assist in each game.
Flint is in second place in the West Division of the OHL and has a 6-3-0 record.
Next Game: 11/12 vs. Saginaw Spirit.
