As the Winnipeg Jets embark on an important four-game homestand this week, they must begin their playoff push now. There are less than thirty games remaining in the 2021-2022 regular season and Winnipeg is six points behind the second Western Conference Wild Card playoff spot and there are many teams in the hunt.

The Jets begin this homestand with an intriguing matchup against the red-hot Montreal Canadiens. One thing to note is that three of the four teams that the Jets will be facing off against this week at the Canada Life Centre are Eastern Conference opponents.

The Winnipeg Jets need to find their game against Eastern Conference opponents

The reason why it is worth pointing out that the Jets will be hosting three foes from the East is becuase the Jets have struggled mightily against those teams.

Currently, the Jets have a 3-9-2 record against teams from the East. Those three wins are the least amount among any team in the NHL when playing an Eastern team.

There is more cause of concern when you look at the Jets’ opponents for this week. First, the Canadiens come to Winnipeg on a five-game winning streak. Then, the Jets will have their lone game against a Western Conference team on Friday night when they take on the Dallas Stars.

Finally, the Jets end this homestand by hosting the New York Rangers who are in the race for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division, and then the Tampa Bay Lightning who are in second place in the Atlantic Division and are the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions.

There is no rhyme or reason why the Jets have not played well against Eastern Conference teams. Regardless of this, the Jets must turn this trend around this week as they look to push for a playoff spot.
