The Winnipeg Jets return to the Canada Life Centre after a wild trade deadline yesterday as they face an important game in the Western Conference Wild Card race against the Vegas Golden Knights. The opening puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

In total at the trade deadline, the Jets made five trades at the NHL level and one AHL trade. Some of the biggest moves involved Mason Appleton returning to the Jets, while the Jets traded forward Andrew Copp to the Rangers in exchange for prospect Morgan Barron and draft picks.

The Winnipeg Jets can close their gap on the second Wild Card playoff spot to two points with a regulation win

Currently, the Golden Knights hold the second playoff spot in the Wild Card with 72 points in 65 games. The Jets sit in fourth place with 68 points in 63 games. Sitting in between Vegas and Winnipeg is the Dallas Stars, who have games in hand on both the Jets and Golden Knights. The Stars have played 61 games and have amassed 71 points.

Although the Stars are in a great position to take the Wild Card spot, tonight is a great chance for the Jets to close the gap on a team that is in this playoff race in front of them in the standings. There are two extremely valuable points on the line tonight in Winnipeg.

Odds

The Winnipeg Jets are listed as the favorites for tonight’s game, courtesy of WynnBET.

This is the third and final regular season matchup between these sides and the Jets have won each prior meeting. The Jets won the first meeting 5-4 in overtime, and a week ago today, the Jets beat the Golden Knights 7-3 in Winnipeg.

It is also worth noting that this is the second game on back-to-back nights for Vegas. Last night, they were shut out by the Wild 3-0 in Minnesota.

Over their last five games, Vegas has posted a 2-3-0 record, while the Jets have a 3-2-0 record in that same timespan.
