After kicking off the road trip last night with an interesting one in Los Angeles, the Winnipeg Jets head a bit further east to continue the first western swing of their schedule.

For game two of their three-game road trip, the Jets head to Tempe, Arizona to take on the Arizona Coyotes in their first-ever trip to Mullett Arena.

If you are unaware of the current situation, “The Mullett”, is the arena that the Coyotes are currently sharing with the Arizona State Sun Devils. This arrangement, which finds the ‘Yotes playing in a 5000-seat arena, will be in place for the next several seasons as they look to establish an arena deal of their own.

Thursday night in Los Angeles was a bizarre game for the Jets that resulted in a 6-4 win over the Kings. Despite being outshot 44-19 (including 17-6 in the first), the Jets rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead going into the third period. After the Kings tied it 4-4, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby recorded his first as a Jet which stood as the game-winner.

Blake Wheeler added an empty netter for his first of the season to put the game out of reach.

The Winnipeg Jets, now 4-3-0, move into Tempe looking to continue their winning ways and extend their winning streak to three games.

The Coyotes are making their home debut this season, playing for the first time in front of the college crowd on the Arizona State University campus. Make no mistake, as weird as it is that they’re playing in a 5000-seat arena, it will be unbelievably loud due to the small space.

Dropping two of their last three and falling to 2-4-0, the Coyotes will likely be energized in front of their new crowd. The Jets need to avoid doing what they did last night in L.A., where they came out slow and gave up 17 shots in the first 20 minutes.

This will be the first of three matchups between the Jets and the ‘Yotes’, with the other two taking place in January and March.
