Winnipeg Jets Beat Calgary Flames 3-1; Extend Win Streak to 3 Games
The Winnipeg Jets were looking to keep their winning streak alive last night as they played host to the Calgary Flames at the Canada Life Centre in the Jets’ third game of a four-game homestand to close out the season.
The Jets started this homestand with an impressive 4-1 win versus the Western Conference leaders, the Colorado Avalanche, and followed that win up with a great 4-0 shutout versus the Philadelphia Flyers. The Jets were not the only team playing well coming into this game, the Flames were riding high coming into Winnipeg riding high on a seven-game point streak.
Connor Hellebuyck returned to the net and got the start in goal for this game after he got the night off on Wednesday against the Flyers.
After allowing an early goal to start the game, the Winnipeg Jets scored three unanswered goals to beat the Calgary Flames 3-1
Matthew Tkachuk got the scoring started in the game just over three minutes into the game, to put the Flames ahead 1-0, but that was the only success the Flames had against Hellebuyck.
In the closing minute of the first frame, Blake Wheeler capped off a terrific give-and-go passing play with Nikolaj Ehlers and Paul Stastny to tie the game at one heading into the dressing room.
Then in the second period, Mason Appleton was the first player to a rebound, from a Josh Morrissey shot, and he slotted the puck into the wide-open net to give the Jets a 2-1 lead.
The Jets and Flames traded chances for the remainder of the game, but the Jets were definitely the better of the two sides. Finally, in the dying stages of the game, Brenden Dillon scored into an empty net to put the seal on the Jets’ win.
This win now extends Winnipeg’s win streak to three games. The Jets’ longest winning streak of the season is four games and that streak happened during the first month of the season back in October.
